AHP2025 specifically recognises an epitope within the C-terminal (CT) region of human IRF5 (interferon regulatory factor 5), a nuclear protein and member of the IRF family, which acts as a key regulator of interferon (IFN) gene transcription.
IRF5 is expressed by B cells and dendritic cells, is inducible by type I interferon (IFN) in most lymphoid cells, and has the ability to induce a wide range of chemokines involved in T-lymphocyte recruitment, including RANTES, MCP-1 and IP-10. Genetic variations in IRF5 are associated with susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), inflammatory bowel disease type 14 (IBD14) and systemic lupus erythematosus type 10 (SLEB10).
